I began practicing yoga in 2012. During that time my initial interest in yoga was strictly for the physical health benefits that it offers as I practiced yoga solely as a form of exercise. However, the energetic and physically demanding yoga sessions that I enjoyed so much began to slowly disappear from my schedule after the loss of my youngest child.
Eventually my yoga practice slowly, but surely, came to a halt and it wouldn't be until a few years later that I would feel compelled to begin practicing yoga again. When I was finally able to resume my yoga practice, I began trying other styles of yoga, and while doing so I noticed myself finding solace mostly through mediation, gentler forms of yoga, yoga philosophy and breathwork.
I became enamored with my newfound discovery of what it meant to truly practice yoga, and I found myself being gifted the opportunity to observe myself heal, not just emotionally, but physically, mentally and spiritually as well. This experience with yoga was new to me, and I found myself wanting to delve deeper - so I did.
I decided to deepen my yoga practice by learning more about yoga and by becoming a yoga teacher, but while studying to receive my yoga teacher certification I was challenged by life yet again when I became ill and was hospitalized. When I was finally able to return home, it was yoga, once again, that carried me through; even though I was unable to practice asana in a way that I was previously accustomed to.
Still, yoga has steadily served as a catalyst in my life for learning to value the significance of becoming familiar with my body, mind and spirit extensively as it relates to wellness, well-being and maintaining a connection to something greater than myself. Yoga and meditation helped me move through those difficult times with grace and ease, and aided me in my desire to cultivate resilience and equanimity during a time when I was forced to accept a new way of being.
The moment that I noticed how much I began to recover physically and emotionally as a result of practicing yoga and meditation consistently, I began to appreciate both ancient practices even more and I felt a strong desire to share this realization with others,
My experience was both empowering and humbling at the same time. What began as a way for me to maintain my physical health, turned into a life changing healing and spiritual journey - and has now become a lifestyle.
I truly enjoy sharing the transformative and healing effects of the philosophies and practices of yoga, and I feel called to serve here as a result of both my personal life journey and my yoga journey. It is from both of these that I have become inspired to practice regularly, teach from the heart and do my best to honor the full intention of yoga.
Salubrity and Soul Yoga is an extension of my enthusiasm for promoting wellness and well-being of body and mind, and nourishing the deepest parts of being.
Yoga allows me an opportunity for self-inquiry and to feel an interconnectedness with all. It is from this spiritual nourishment that I continue to be inspired to live and share the heart of yoga.
"Yoga is the journey of the self, through the self, to the self"
- The Bhagavad Gita
I am a 200 hour yoga teacher, and have been registered with yoga alliance since 2022. I continue to evolve as both a yoga practitioner, and a yoga teacher by maintaining a regular yoga practice, completing required continuing education courses, and a variety of other yoga and meditation related classes and training programs of personal interest and / or need.
I have been studying and practicing yoga consistently since 2019, and I have been teaching yoga since 2023. I am also currently enrolled in classes to receive additional certifications.
My life experiences, Bachelor of Science degree in psychology, and previous work experience in the fields of mental health and social work have all helped contribute to my developing a gentle, caring, supportive and practical approach to teaching yoga.
I am very passionate about helping others find nourishment for their whole being by embracing and embodying the essence of yoga, implementing a consistent daily yoga practice and upholding accessibility and inclusivity in yoga.
Sharing yoga with others brings me joy, and I am grateful to be able to meet and connect with wonderful, beautiful people each week through the time-honored practice of yoga.
My yoga practice looks much different from when I first began practicing over a decade a go and I strive to ensure that my teaching reflects that. I believe that yoga is a personal journey and that is what I hope my students not just feel when taking one of my classes but embody as well.
I consider myself to be a student of life first and foremost, and as a student of life I look forward to learning with you - and as a yoga teacher, I gratefully and humbly look forward to working with you.
